There are lots of methods to persuade people, but one you might not have considered is…fun! There’s a fascinating test in this episode, designed to get people to use the stairs rather than an escalator. I think you’ll be surprised at the result.

Our question for this episode revolves around a challenge that’s common to many businesses – how do you sell a product that lots of other businesses sell? In other words, how do you encourage customers to buy from YOU rather than your competitors? Listen up, you can apply the strategy I reveal to YOUR business.

There was a time when I thought that multi-tasking to the extreme, was a good thing! I’ve since learned that you need to stick to what you’re best at, as well as doing tasks that are the best use of your time. This week’s nifty click resource (www.HireAHelper.com) will help you outsource household tasks like moving, gardening, and cleaning. No need to mow the lawn anymore ;)

Samsung are a smart company. They realize that they compete withe the likes of Nokia or Apple’s iPhone. BUT, they have found a niche that apparently no one else wanted to touch. They’ve developed a mobile phone for Welsh speaking people – a potential market of around 1 million people.

Let me know your opinion about the topics covered in the show this week – leave your comment below, it’s really easy to do.

Enjoy the show!

This was really informative. I think a lot of people will be interested in knowing more marketing tips, especially in this economy. I suggest this video to anyone who might be struggling when it comes to marketing.

  4. Great shows! I look forward to them each week. Your format has got me planning a 10-12 minute soccer show in what appears to be an relatively un-tapped market. I’m excited about the possibilities.
One of these days, I hope you will pick my “Ask Andrew” to feature on your show.
Thanks again for the advice and inspiration.

    Erik

  5. Hi Andrew,
Again, great ideas and suggestions. I always think that fun is the way to go. I incorporate “fun” into a lot of my marketing materials which, I think, sets me apart from others in my field and gets me favorable response.
But the best part about today was reminding me to diversify my products! I am always looking to get an edge up on my competitors. Finding creative ways to do that is a challenge (and a FUN one!)

  6. Congrats Andrew… Love your approach. We will be purchasing your “How to do Your own Web TV Show” asap… Have a great Holiday season & a spectacular New Year!

  8. Hi Andrew,
Putting “FUN” into what you do makes it “FUN” for your customers as well. Making something fun to do reminded me of the movie “BIG” with Tom Hanks. I think it was made in the 80′s. He made it fun to shop at the big department store where he was hired. The floor piano seen is reminiscent of the stairs in Sweden.
Great show as always and good “take away” marketing ideas too.
    Merry Christmas!
    Happy New Year!

    Regards,
    Hal Hoadley

  9. Hi Andrew,

Once again a great video. But, I have to ask did you view the piano stairs video on our site at http://gadgetxs.com/2009/10/piano-stairs/ ? But still it is great marketing!!

  10. Your “apples to apples” comparison is very well done in too many consumer products, for example TVs. If you find a model at one store that you like, you’ll find it very difficult to find the exact same model at another store to compare. Maybe just one or two letters in the model number are different, but it won’t be identical. Makes comparison shopping a nightmare!!

  11. Hey Andrew–

Thanks for sharing the very cool piano stairs video. What a novel idea! And I enjoyed your answer to the WeeWheels seller dilemma. It’s got me thinking about how to apply a similar strategy in my biz!

  12. Like always Mr Andrew, knock it out of the park!

  13. A quick comment on the weewheels.com website. I just visited it and was confused because they didn’t appear to be SELLING the Striders as much as promoting the concept.

Once I finally found the link to “products” I discovered that I couldn’t view the products unless I “registered” first. Registering visitors is a great list builder, but it can turn away potential buyers who simply want to see what you’re selling without getting on ANOTHER mailing list. Other sites selling the same product hit you right up front with pricing and ordering links along with promotional videos. That could be a BIG problem with capturing sales in a competitive market too.

    I’m just sayin…
    Jimm

  14. I see what you mean about a lot of education on the WeeWheels.com site.
Jim, I did notice that if you click on ‘products/shop now’ it takes you to the products and does not require registration. That is confusing and needs to be addressed.

  15. Love the idea about bundling :) Thanks Andrew.
