Andrew, You mentioned branding, but I really think the power of the In and Out name needs more emphasis. There is clearly an advantage to having a name that is descriptive of what you do or promise, that is slightly sexy or suggestive (to the teen crowd), and totally memorable. Now add everything you said and how could a company go wrong? I know that the company works their employees hard, but they have high loyalty and reward them with good pay. They also hire strategically. Look at their employee base. They will nearly all fall into the high school prom King and Queen model. How does that help? Duh, the company knows who their primary customers are and they clearly target a segment that their employee base knows, appreciates, and wants to come see at work. Having said that, the company's brand and quality appeal to a much broader segment of society, but the conservative, American Pie, nostalgic persona only helps in those broader segments as well. In-n-Out burger gets 5 stars on execution!

Before I didn't know anything about this fast food company. Now I see that, it's a really good company - because this company try to give something different to the people - prices are cheaper, salaries are higher and etc. The main thing is that, the people like the services offered by this fast food company and they take advantage of this services. After all each part benefits from this. The company benefits, because they get a good profit from the buyers and the buyers benefit, because they save a money and also get a fresh meals, which is very important for human health. These is the customer satisfaction and it's one of the important rules of the targeted marketing.

Great video! I'm from LA and know first-hand that everything you pointed out about In N'Out's success factors is the truth. I've never had a bad experience there - ever! It's fun to order from the "secret menu" and no matter how complex the variations are (e.g. 3 by 3 animal style raw onions extra pickles protein style) the servers greet you with a smile and the order is CORRECT when you get it! This video gives a very succinct and intelligent summary of In N'Out's business success strategy.

Great lessons in this episode.

Hours of business is something simple and it's amazing how some people miss the boat on it.

Down the road from me is a coffee shop that has put signs out to invite business from people on their way to the Manassas VRE train into DC.

The problem is that the last train to DC leaves at 7:50, and this coffee shot doesn't open until 8:00.

Great marketing lesson. I only wish that we had In and Out in Nashville TN. Seems all we have in the south are McDonalds and Jacks. Ugh!
I LOVE your podcast video's and never miss a one. I've gotten so many business ideas from watching. Keep up the good work and keep em coming.

This video is very interesting.. And with a lot of good advices I’m going to start searching in you’re archive. It’s very refreshing to see a company keeping it simple and taking care of their target market while everyone else is scrambling to try and please every customer.

Alberto,

I didn't get paid anything from In 'n' Out for this video. I just wanted to feature them as an example of a business that understands that 'everything is marketing'.

Regards

For trancparancy's sake. Did you get paid for this commercial?

Not a problem at all i just think that if it was, that it was done in good taste and I don't think many other people noticed unless they were studying and wondering how you do certain things.

Great job. Now I'm also hungry and I don't have an "in and out" in my area.

Bob,

I may have misunderstood you so there's no need to apologize.

Many people have over reacted to the FTC rules. The FTC doesn't have the resources or desire to prosecute the average blogger who appears to be running an ethical business. They're after the crooks. And even then, they have said that they will send warning notices FIRST, to allow people to come into compliance. So, be aware of it, but no need to run scared.

regards

Andrew, I sincerely apologize if my comment was inflammatory. The quote I sent you was from a blog that I read. I'm not sure if I can mentioned the website but I under the impression that there were 2 new FTC rules. The one that you mentioned and the one from my quote. I have read that some affiliate marketers have left the business. If the blogger was wrong then I apologize.

Bob,

I'm not sure if you have a genuine interest or if you just enjoy making inflamatory statements.

I'm not a lawyer so I don't give legal advice. I suggest you check with your own lawyer if you're concerned about the FTC regulations.

The regulations are to protect consumers from unethical businesses that seek to deliberately exploit people with false promises and shoddy products. Legitimate businesses have nothing to worry about.

Andrew, will you be doing a show about affiliate marketing?

According to the new FTC law that started on December 1:

"affiliates must disclose “material” connections. This means you as an affiliate must make it clear to your readers that you make money from promoting something. This disclosure runs in stark contrast to the strategy many affiliates take of keeping hidden the fact that they are affiliates.
".

I'm sure that this will impact many marketers perhaps even yourself. Will you be following the rules or "fly under the radar" as you have mentioned in the past.

Interesting video on In-N-Out Burger. I was kind of surprised that they built one in Draper, UT as, according to Mapquest, it is a 9 hours 57 minutes / 672.75 miles drive from headquarters in Irvine, CA and it was my understanding that they would not build further from home than a one day drive. While that is a stretch in a car, it is 3 minutes short of the maximum that an 18 wheeler driver can drive in a day. At any rate, I have one about 9 miles from my home so I'd guess that one day soon, I'll have to try it!
