Andrew, your show gets better and better. This was a terrific chance to show exactly what you’ve been telling us all along and show it in action. Thanks again, and I am looking for an In & Out Burger on the East Coast. Till then we’ve got 5 Guys!

Wow, sounds like a free commercial for In-N-Out!
But I tend to agree. I almost NEVER go to any fast food emporium EXCEPT In-N-Out. Several reasons: I know what they put into my burgers (they make them the way my wife makes them), they are fast and, while I don’t eat fries, their fries are more healthy than anyone else. Also. as you mentioned, their place, including bathrooms, are clean. What more could you ask for?

Loved the show Andrew, also liked the difference of getting out on location. Thanks for keeping things fresh and relevant.

Andrew,
Glad to see you mix it up a little bit. Sometimes 2-3 minutes isn’t enough time to showcase a business or strategy properly. I think you chose a great company as well. It’s amazing how popular in and out is…even to friends of mine who’ve never even eaten there! I don’t know whether they keep just enough restaurants to keep supply just shy of demand…or if it’s a variety of things, but there is definitely intrigue surrounding them. I never make a trip to the Left coast without stopping by. Make mine a double double, hold the onions, with a diet Dr. Pepper. (Why I get a diet drink with a double double I don’t know…helps balance it out I suppose)
Great show!

Hey Andrew,
I’m writing this quickly because it is around lunch time here in Southern California and now that you let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, I’m going to In & Out. it’s just around the corner.
We Californians have been spoiled by In & Out over the years and now it looks like the rest of the country may be able to experience a grat hamberger for themselves. They have a great bumper sticker too. “In & Out Urge”.
I like it animal style.
see ya next week.

Hey Andrew,
I’ve never tried In-and-Out…they don’t have them here in Ohio…but now I’m intrigued.
I typically stay away from “fast food” at all costs, but I will definitely give In-and-Out a try when I see one and want a “cheat meal.”
Oh yeah…thanks for the helpful business tips too!
Best wishes,
Pete

I’ve always loved their fresh potato french fries but DON’T LET THEM GET COLD – that’s with any food but more so with fresh potatoe fries for some reason.
Home-style cooking for sure – even the shakes.

Another great show-Here in California we have been enjoying the food and service of In and Out for years-The kind of service I encourage my clients to provide THEIR customers—It’s all about the experience, and In-and-Out does it!
Thanks Andrew

Now I’m starving… hahaha. Great show, as always.

The food and service at In & Out is great, but I think people are missing the point.
In & Out is an awesome business model because they over deliver on a very simple concept. They only do one thing, but they do it better than everyone else. They know who their target market is and they do what ever it takes to WOW them so they become loyal fans that can’t stop talking about the experience.
It’s very refreshing to see a company keeping it simple and taking care of their target market while everyone else is scrambling to try and please every customer.
Thanks Andrew and thanks In & Out

Interesting video on In-N-Out Burger. I was kind of surprised that they built one in Draper, UT as, according to Mapquest, it is a 9 hours 57 minutes / 672.75 miles drive from headquarters in Irvine, CA and it was my understanding that they would not build further from home than a one day drive. While that is a stretch in a car, it is 3 minutes short of the maximum that an 18 wheeler driver can drive in a day. At any rate, I have one about 9 miles from my home so I’d guess that one day soon, I’ll have to try it!

Andrew, will you be doing a show about affiliate marketing?
According to the new FTC law that started on December 1:
“affiliates must disclose “material” connections. This means you as an affiliate must make it clear to your readers that you make money from promoting something. This disclosure runs in stark contrast to the strategy many affiliates take of keeping hidden the fact that they are affiliates.
“.
I’m sure that this will impact many marketers perhaps even yourself. Will you be following the rules or “fly under the radar” as you have mentioned in the past.
December 3rd, 2009 at 1:06 am
Bob,
I’m not sure if you have a genuine interest or if you just enjoy making inflamatory statements.
I’m not a lawyer so I don’t give legal advice. I suggest you check with your own lawyer if you’re concerned about the FTC regulations.
The regulations are to protect consumers from unethical businesses that seek to deliberately exploit people with false promises and shoddy products. Legitimate businesses have nothing to worry about.

Very nice Episode, thanks for sharing your experience

In N Out has the BEST burgers and fries anywhere! I’m fortunate to live in CA and occasionally I’ll treat myself to the tastiest burgers and freshest fries on the planet. Hope they expand all over the globe so everyone else has a chance to eat there. In N Out is #1!!
December 3rd, 2009 at 6:25 am
Andrew, I sincerely apologize if my comment was inflammatory. The quote I sent you was from a blog that I read. I’m not sure if I can mentioned the website but I under the impression that there were 2 new FTC rules. The one that you mentioned and the one from my quote. I have read that some affiliate marketers have left the business. If the blogger was wrong then I apologize.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:05 am
great episode. I didn’t know all of that information about in and out and now I know why people are buzzing and talking about it so much. awesome.
December 3rd, 2009 at 11:25 am
Bob,
I may have misunderstood you so there’s no need to apologize.
Many people have over reacted to the FTC rules. The FTC doesn’t have the resources or desire to prosecute the average blogger who appears to be running an ethical business. They’re after the crooks. And even then, they have said that they will send warning notices FIRST, to allow people to come into compliance. So, be aware of it, but no need to run scared.
regards
Andrew

Andrew, you have a future on doing commercials! hehe! Anyone will see this video will definitely go to In & Out Burger and try their burger which is 100 by 100. haha! Kidding. Well, Nice video Andrew it really works on advertisement plus the video is very informative. “Everything is marketing and marketing is everything” – Yeah right.
December 5th, 2009 at 11:48 am
For trancparancy’s sake. Did you get paid for this commercial?
Not a problem at all i just think that if it was, that it was done in good taste and I don’t think many other people noticed unless they were studying and wondering how you do certain things.
Great job. Now I’m also hungry and I don’t have an “in and out” in my area.
December 5th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Fantastic video. Im first time watching this type of videos. Anyway expecting more from you soon…
December 5th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Alberto,
I didn’t get paid anything from In ‘n’ Out for this video. I just wanted to feature them as an example of a business that understands that ‘everything is marketing’.
Regards
Andrew

Great marketing lesson. I only wish that we had In and Out in Nashville TN. Seems all we have in the south are McDonalds and Jacks. Ugh!
I LOVE your podcast video’s and never miss a one. I’ve gotten so many business ideas from watching. Keep up the good work and keep em coming.
December 6th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Great lessons in this episode.
Hours of business is something simple and it’s amazing how some people miss the boat on it.
Down the road from me is a coffee shop that has put signs out to invite business from people on their way to the Manassas VRE train into DC.
The problem is that the last train to DC leaves at 7:50, and this coffee shot doesn’t open until 8:00.

Great video! I’m from LA and know first-hand that everything you pointed out about In N’Out’s success factors is the truth. I’ve never had a bad experience there – ever! It’s fun to order from the “secret menu” and no matter how complex the variations are (e.g. 3 by 3 animal style raw onions extra pickles protein style) the servers greet you with a smile and the order is CORRECT when you get it! This video gives a very succinct and intelligent summary of In N’Out’s business success strategy.

Well Andrew you are going on and one about the values of this fast food joint. Yes I have not heard of this fast food restaurant, but still after all it is fast food right ..It still has its flaws as you yourself has mention in the end.But any way nice marketing style. Like it

Juicy, on the spot and not at all….heavy for the stomach of young enterpreuneurs that wish to make a difference. Well done.

Before I didn’t know anything about this fast food company. Now I see that, it’s a really good company – because this company try to give something different to the people – prices are cheaper, salaries are higher and etc. The main thing is that, the people like the services offered by this fast food company and they take advantage of this services. After all each part benefits from this. The company benefits, because they get a good profit from the buyers and the buyers benefit, because they save a money and also get a fresh meals, which is very important for human health. These is the customer satisfaction and it’s one of the important rules of the targeted marketing.
December 8th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Andrew, You mentioned branding, but I really think the power of the In and Out name needs more emphasis. There is clearly an advantage to having a name that is descriptive of what you do or promise, that is slightly sexy or suggestive (to the teen crowd), and totally memorable. Now add everything you said and how could a company go wrong? I know that the company works their employees hard, but they have high loyalty and reward them with good pay. They also hire strategically. Look at their employee base. They will nearly all fall into the high school prom King and Queen model. How does that help? Duh, the company knows who their primary customers are and they clearly target a segment that their employee base knows, appreciates, and wants to come see at work. Having said that, the company’s brand and quality appeal to a much broader segment of society, but the conservative, American Pie, nostalgic persona only helps in those broader segments as well. In-n-Out burger gets 5 stars on execution!

Go JUNGLE Style at In-N-Out.
