Very helpful, and interesting. I do have a dusty yellow book on my shelf haha and I am one of the 13%! I believe that this show keeps my attention, and makes me want to keep watching, it is also very informative. I think that anyone who wants to make a business, or just want to know some random facts about business' should watch this video.

Hi Andrew.
New to the show and I loved it! Short, fun and to the point - yet very informative. I am a small business owner that is always on the look out for new and exciting ways to bring our energy efficient lighting solutions to more and more customers. I'll be sure to check back often so I don't miss out on upcoming episodes.

Your tip on SpyFu is very promising. :-)

BTW - Yellow Book? A major dust collector around here. : )

Hello,

I watched your video and it was really an eye opener for me in many ways. I am not a marketer by profession but have a keen eye for marketing techniques employed by Companies. Regarding yellow pages books, I am using less and less of them as websites do the same function for me in a lesser time. About BoomText I agree that mobile messages are more read than email messages since they dont contain a subject line and so receivers tend to open and read mobile marketing messages. I intend to follow your show since its very interesting, well presented and full of innovative marketing information.

I loved your video! Very funny and extremely true.

I used to work for a yellow pages company and I can tell you that NO ONE really benefits from being in these books anymore. It was so stressful trying to convince business owners to buy ads in our books when I knew the books were useless too. In fact, most of the business owners seem to realize how useless these books are as well. It is all about the internet now and if your business is not on the web, it may not survive.

I have a Yellow Book and there's money in those pages if you know how to use it, especially for internet marketers looking for buyers and not 'freebie seekers'.

Somebody in your area spent good money to get listed in a book no one uses....Ha! I love it when buyers raise their hand with bills in it and want to give it to me:)

great and interesting video, very informative specially the list of possible search engine to use. i don't use yellow pages too as for me, its only a waste of time checking and looking those company. I just simply go online to check the phone or address of the company, less time to search and more information listed for me to check on. goodluck

Andrew --

Spyfu.com is only of limited usefulness -- since it doesn't report on many websites. I was able to "spy" on yours, but it returned "no results found" on mine and several of my clients.

My rating: very iffy -- marginal, at best. Makes me wonder about whether the data they report is just as reliable. Great hubris, though.

Just shows you that if you offer a global capacity, deliver it or your credibility crashes.

Spyfu would do well to remember that "Marketing is everything -- and everything is marketing."

Love the show!

Hi,

I would like to become an advertiser on your site. I am looking to place a small text link ad. Do you allow those types of ads and if so would you be ok with a do-follow link?
I usually ask for one line with just a few words. I prefer them at the top, middle, or bottom of the main content area of the site. However, I am sure we can work out placement.

The keywords the ad would be targeting would be "link building" related. If you accept this type of advertising please let me know what you would charge me to place a link ad on your site. Feel free to call me if you have any questions

Thanks

I would be out of business with out the yellow pages. Although I do fall into the plumber, contractor field that you did mention, I must disagree with your opinion with the use of aaa for positioning. obviously from my web address aaa-superior.com I find if you do use this type of directory, positioning is 90% of the battle. I have used AAA for exactly that reason.
More over there is a whole lot of people who do not know the difference between micro soft windows and the windows they look though or Apple and what grows on a tree. However I agree for sure that the trend is undeniable and if your Ideal customer is between the age of 18-45, and you are not in a service industry. yellow pages would be a waste of resources.

Like many others here I seldom if ever use the Yellow pages anymore. We get three different issues in this area and most of them go directly into the recycle bin.
Another great show, Andrew!

Interestin to read all the comments about your use (or lack of use) of the Yellow book. As I suspected, most Internet users have ditched the book, and what a colossal waste of paper that is on a large scale. It's scary actually. In our neighborhood we receive directories from 2 or 3 companies, so the waste is multiplied even more.

I currently have 4 yellow books sitting on the shelf. I have been trying to figure out what to do with them. I havent used yellow book for years. I use the yellow books to boost my grandchild up in a chair. I wish I could stop them from delivering them to me. The internet is so convienient that I have no plans to every look up information manually.

I haven't used a print edition of Yellow Pages in at least 5 years. I always search online...Google or on a rare occassion Yellow Pages online. When I receive a phone book, I immediately recycle it. I wish there was an opt-out option...save a tree, stop sending them to me!

I have two offline business - one for commercial cleaning and the other is a residential carpet cleaning biz. We have canceled YP ads for both. Businesses NEVER use the YP. Consumers do somewhat, but they are usually price-shoppers - people we don't want as customers. Typically, the more affluent, the more they go online to search for services.

Geez, I did,'t like the part where Mister Boom text and Andrew read out of a script. It sounded so mechanical and unnatural. Other than that, the rest was pretty cool. Oh yeah, the phone book still has its market and is used by a lot of senior citizens. Of course, the younger generation will find it easier to go online and type whatever they're looking for.

I NEVER use the Yellow Pages. I don't use any telephone books. I go directly online to find any services I need.

I also don't advertise any of my businesses in the Yellow Pages.

If so many people use Yellow Pages (hard copy) each year, how come they are in bankruptcy at the moment? We have copies delivered each year and I resent your suggestion that they just gather dust, inferring they are useless. In fact they make very good door stops but, from personal observation, I can say they are mainly used to support ld style computer monitors.
