Episode #50 – “I Never Get Tired of Judging People
”
Before I get to the show notes, I just wanted to let you know that in view of the success and popularity of Twitter, all future episodes will be shortened from the current 10 minutes to just 12 seconds long. A recent survey showed that 93.873% of you suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder, so I’m confident that this new format will be much more helpful to you. The new format will be available from today, April 1st.
I’m excited…and I just can’t hide it. For the last 6 months I’ve been working on a new project for YOUR benefit (well sure, I benefit too).
With the success of this show combined with my background in the world of TV production, I’m creating a new WebTV network for entrepreneurs called GotBiz.tv. The theme of the network is ‘business doesn’t have to be boring’ and there’ll be lots of 10 minute, weekly shows on all kinds of subjects that relate to helping you in your business, whatever that might be.
In this episode I’ll give you a tour of the new home of GotBiz.tv, our custom built production studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. We’ve started production on some of the new shows and we plan to launch the network within the next couple of months, so look out for more news on that. Oh, and I’d love to hear about your suggestions for topics for shows. It can be anything you like, just post a comment on the blog and I’ll follow up with you.
The viewer question this time relates to someone who has plenty of visitors to their website, but those visits aren’t translating into sales. This is a problem with conversion, and I explain more about that as well as provide some suggestions on how to improve conversion.
Have you ever had to arrange a meeting for a bunch of people who live in different areas? It’s a pain. I recently discovered a service that makes the process simple and efficient, and I share that with you in this week’s video.
Ah, the ups and downs of eBay. It’s getting to be quite a saga, isn’t it? There’s been more changes in the company in the last year than in the previous 5 years combined, and most of those changes are not good. But eBay is still doing some things right, and the big marketing lesson I feature this time is something that YOU can adapt and benefit from in your business. It relates to how you make customers FEEL about you and your business. Let me know what you think.
Websites and resources mentioned in the show:
EZS3 Service (It’s THE Service I personally use for storing and playing videos on the NiftyClicks.com website)
When Is Good? (Great, free online tool for arranging a mutually agreeable meeting time)
NiftyClicks (discover the very latest web tools and resources)
Get a Private Telephone Consultation with me (to Help YOUR Business)
Microwave Marketing (Your Monthly Business Training System – special low price offer for you)
T-Shirts for the show are supplied by National Media Services (check out their excellent service)

Thanks for yet another great show Andrew and congrats on #50!
Far out, your studio looks very cool. Looking forward to GotBiz.TV. Ya better watch out, Google will come and buy you out for a couple of million if you’re not careful

Andrew, great studio. Good luck with the network. Also, in my opinion, the Ebay marketing lesson is a weak one. I know that when Ebay is mentioned, many emotions flare up for people, but the damage has been done. The business model is broken. I know that it’s the world largest e-commerce site, but eventually when you don’t treat your customers right… well, just ask GM.
For the network, can I suggest a topic or segment on a web based business that generates revenues from Google Adwords, ebooks and affiliate marketing. I think that this is a business model that more entrepreneurs should adopt. I recently started doing this myself by learning from your shows. It took me awhile but I finally realized that all those websites you list starting with Try was affiliate marketing. Thanks for lesson. Looking forward to the new network. Bob

Steve,
Glad you liked the episode, and I’m not sure that GotBiz is Google material, but you never know. For now, we’re concentrating on making it the most useful educational site for entrepreneurs in the world, so that’s keeping us very very busy!
Bob,
Remember that there’s still LOTS of newbies signing up for eBay every day – between 30,000 and 50,000 new accounts are created every day, so not everyone is disiillusioned about eBay. And remember, the marketing lessons in the shows are PRINCIPLES that are proven and sound. The principle of honoring your best customers is a very important one. So even if you’re own experience with eBay hasn’t been a good one, don’t disregard the principle of treating your best customers in a special way, that’s the point.
Thanks for your suggestion about topics for GotBiz, those have been noted.
Regards
Andrew

Andrew, I do better than honor my best customers, I honor all my customers (I add postcards that I bought for pennies each to each order). As for the 30,000 to 50,000 new Ebay accounts every day, I guess that would be like the example in this show–it’s all about the conversion. Thank you for your comments. Your Customer Service Guru, Bob.

Hi Andrew!
Another great show. Looking forward to the GotBiz network. There should be lots to learn about small businesses/home offices.
I’d like to see some discussion on how to best monitize your blogs and some of the best methods for generating publicity for your business.
Again, thanks for all the great information.

Hi Andrew, Justin emailed me earlier about getting that stock certificate, thanks!
I would really love to speak with you both about that eBay show idea
April 1st, 2009 at 5:47 pm
Jerry – check out a few of these articles here:
http://www.collectiblescornertv.com/category/articles/
I synthesized a lot of info i’ve been learning from andrew, yanik, dean hunt, barry dunlop and more and put it into easy to read lists
April 1st, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Andrew – i just read your latest issue of microwave marketing and i HAD to tell you.. you mentioned to use Viddler in your eBay listings – you must tell people not to – their listings WILL be shut down. It goes in violation of ebay’s links policy (which is an annoying policy) and also it isn’t on the approved video list. I wanted to tell you so you could avoid hate mail when people start losing their listings. eBay is unforgiving – if they pull the plug on you they could shut down whole sites. I’ve been in the eBay business long enough to know they don’t screw around
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-links.html
The video must deliver the content in flash animation format and be hosted by a site that takes strong measures to provide safe content. In an attempt to safeguard eBay members, based on current technologies and current eBay marketplace requirements, sellers may only embed video from:
AOL
AuctionMercial
AuctionPlayer
AuctionVideo
CarTHINK
CreativeVideosOnline
Dailymotion
Google
i2iAuction
Microsoft
MySpace
Silverdock
Vzaar
YouTube
Non-permitted links include, but are not limited to:
Links to websites or pages that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services outside of eBay. This applies whether it is a static URL or an active link.

Bob,
I agree that it’s good to honor all customers, but our best customers still deserve extra special treatment in my view. We want them to continue being customers, don’t we?
Lou,
Thanks for the well wishes, it’s an exciting time.
Mark,
and your kind comments about the ‘how to do your own tv show’ course.
Glad you spotted the April Fool’s prank
Richard,
I’ll give you a personal tour next time you’re in town.
Jimm,
Thanks for the well wishes, please let me know what topics you’d like to see on GotBiz.tv
Jerry,
We’ll add those suggestions into the mix.
Tammy,
We have your idea under consideration. Currently, we’ve selected 6 shows for the launch of GotBiz, and more shows will be added regularly after the launch.

Andrew

Tammy,
I’ve been using Viddler videos in eBay listings for many months now without a problem. The idea actually came from one of my students who has been using Viddler for more than 6 months.
Here’s the deal as far as eBay goes. They make lots of ‘black and white’ policies that aren’t actually actively policed. eBay ONLY takes action if someone complains – that’s what they’ve told me directly. They don’t browse listings looking for ‘violations’ themselves. There aren’t enough people or hours in the day to do that, so they look to the community for that.
As another example that also relates to video, the ORIGINAL eBay policy about a year ago was that you could only LINK to a video on YouTube from an eBay listing – you weren’t allowed to embed a YouTube video in a listing. However, hundreds of thousands of sellers, if not millions, ignored that policy and embedded the videos in their listings rather than linking to them. It was a stupid policy and sellers rebelled en masse. eBay let it go and eventually changed the policy.
I suspect that the list of video sites that eBay provides is not carefully thought out, it’s just a list of the most common video sites they’re aware of.
So, I appreciate you mentioning this because it’s good to be aware of the policies, but again, eBay don’t police listings. So…
The #1 thing that’s served me well is to stay under the radar by being perceived as a small seller, not a PowerSeller. I have many eBay accounts and once they become a certain size I abandon them and open new accounts to continue to stay under the radar.
Regards
Andrew

“I have many eBay accounts and once they become a certain size I abandon them and open new accounts to continue to stay under the radar.”
I guess that’s where many of the 30,000 to 50,000 new Ebay accounts created every day come from (I’m sure many other accounts were created from non-paying bidders). Can I also suggest a Flying Under The Radar segment in your shows? What a way to run a business.
April 2nd, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Hello Andrew,
Great Studio. I so look forward to all the shows you will be having there. I am sure they will be very interesting as the ones you have now.
By the way, could you direct me to a site that has a good article on internet marketing language and jargons?
thanks again
April 2nd, 2009 at 6:14 pm
Andrew, you’re probably right… but, as a seller who isn’t under the radar, and for any other sellers who aren’t under the radar, just have them watch out. I used to use viddler, but i do run things by my account rep b/c i don’t want to lose my account, and she said it isn’t technically allowed – and the links thing… well i know ebay is quite clear about it. Again, you’re probably right that most won’t get caught – i just wanted to let you know in case it was just an oversight
Hope all is well. Met with Barry Dunlop today. What a nice guy! He said really nice things about you.
Love the new studio!

I can’t wait to see Luci’s show! She is so great on Mercola.com! Thanks for the tour and the anticipation!
April 5th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
I really really hope Heidi isn’t serious about the shirt comment…man, even joking about that annoys me for some reason.
And Bob: I can’t tell if you are completely sarcastic, but it’s a little harsh toward someone who is helping many small business owners. Please let me know if you are intending to come across as egocentric with comments such as, “…Thank you for your comments. Your Customer Service Guru, Bob.” and, “Can I also suggest a Flying Under The Radar segment in your shows? What a way to run a business.” I just can’t pick up on your tone.
Anyway, congrats Andrew and thank you for your work – I hope it is paying off for you in multiple ways…

Jason,
I’m not sure of a good site for Internet Marketing jargon, like a glossary. If anyone knows of one, let’s hear about it for Jason…
Tammy,
Please email me directly and we can setup an affiliate account for you, no problem at all.
Maria,
Seems like we’re both fans of Luci
Dr Scott,
I must admit, I did wonder if Heidi was serious, but then this episode did go out on April 1st, so we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt, shall we!

Andrew

Good day, sun shines!
There have were times of hardship when I didn’t know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright pessimistic person.
I have never imagined that there weren’t any need in big initial investment.
Now, I’m happy and lucky , I begin take up real income.
It’s all about how to select a proper companion who utilizes your money in a right way – that is incorporate it in real business, parts and divides the income with me.
You can get interested, if there are such firms? I have to tell the truth, YES, there are. Please be informed of one of them:
