Episode #24 - ‘24 Hour Fitness’ is a company that’s well known for one thing. They’re open 24 hours a day. Or so I thought. Check out what happened to me when I tried to become a member, you might be surprised… or maybe the same thing happened to you?
This week’s viewer question is from a Chiropractor in Denver. He’s serving Hispanics in his area but many affluent customers are moving in to the neighborhood. He wants to know whether he should stick with the Hispanics, or adapt to serve more of the affluent clients. What do you think? You’ll see my suggestions in the show.
Nifty Clicks. Don’t you just love ‘em? I love sharing them with you and thank you for all your positive emails about this part of the show. This week it’s a practical tool that’ll make you more money. A LOT more money if you use it on a site where people already buy stuff. It’s a kind of upsell called OTO which stands for ‘One Time Offer’. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with one time offers, I explain the process on the show. I strongly encourage you to use OTO Page Generator, it’s a wonderful tool to EASILY make more money on any website that sells products.
The BIG marketing lesson comes courtesy of Threadless.com. Wow, what a fascinating business model they have! Imagine being in a situation where your customers create your product (for free), they then promote that product to their friends, AND even buy it themselves! That’s what Threadless.com have done, and it’s pure genius. Watch the episode to see what I discovered about Threadless, and how you can apply the lessons to your business.

Hey Andrew,
Great video as usual.
I think 24 hour fitness is still actually open 24 hours, 7 days a week. The recording you heard is for their service desk where those people usually get off work earlier.
I’m assuming this because my gym is open until 10:30pm but the actual customer service employees leave around 9pm. Also, I was going to sign up at another gym which closes at midnight but their customer service employees are off work around 8pm.
I’ve checked out the 24 hour fitness site and for each club that I saw they are open 24 hours, 7 days a week where you can workout.
$2500 bucks! I think I have to submit some designs to Threadless.
Can’t wait til next weeks show!

Andrew,
I think you’re right about 24 hour fitness, but they should seriously think about having SOMEONE staff the phones, don’t you?
Glad you liked threadless.com

Andrew, where can I get a Think Negative
T-Shirt? All this positivity all the time is really starting to wear on my nerves.

So here’s a great marketing lesson from a t-shirt company, and I’m wondering why in your infinite marketing wisdom you don’t make your weekly t-shirts available to us fans of the show? Too much trouble? Too many shirts? Maybe you could have us viewers vote on our favorite ones (ala Threadless) and have those favs for sale. Seems like an easy way to make some bucks and also have people advertising for you by wearing your shirts.
Thanks for the great lesson from Threadless about getting customers involved. Great Nifty-click as well.
Onward!

I guess the bootcamp that you went to has you becoming more fitness savvy as you are looking for a gym.
The threadless site is really a great idea and gave me a somewhat similar idea for my own site I hope to use in the future.

Greg,
Some of the shirts are my own design, some are pre-made from sites like Cafepress and Threadless, some are sent in by viewers of the show.
I get emails from a few people every week asking about where to get the shirts, but I’m not sure I want to be in the t-shirt business. If someone else wants to take on that role on behalf of viewers, that’s fine by me, just let me know.

Andrew

I found your show because of Mike Litman’s blog. Wonderful story/demonstration about 24 hour fitness…or maybe that’s 14 hour fitness except on Sunday, on which is is not fitness!

Quick question, how do you post your show on a (my) blog.
Thanks.
