Episode #11 - I attended the eBay Live! annual event in Chicago, and it was not pretty as I explain in this video.  Many eBay sellers are giving up because of the changes that eBay management has forced on them.  There’s a viewer question from a 70 year old lady who asks how to earn more from her speaking gigs!  The Nifty Click web resource helps you to manage your money (and it’s completely free).  And finally, the BIG marketing lesson comes from Costco, a company that deserves your business….you’ll soon see why.

  1. Hi Andrew - another excellent episode - well done. Go on, give us the low down on Ebay please. I was reading about this in the UK Sunday Times this past weekend - don’t they realise how easy it is to go from Hero to Zero in today’s new faster moving economy. (OK maybe unlikely that will happen, but what if Google decide to do auctions as was suggested in the article I read!)

Anyway, good work my friend - always a pleasure to listen to you

    Barry

  2. Andrew your little green “share button” doesnt work !
Yes more on ebay –that would be great

  3. HI Andrew,

Yes please - an Ebay special would be great!

Mint sounds great - but is limited to the US. How about the UK?

I love this show! Many thanks for another great episode!

  4. Would love to see more info about ebay changes and your perspective on it.

    Regards,

    GS

  5. Hey Andrew,

Sounds like they really messed up at eBay live this year.

They have to give the people what they want and some changes are just not good for the company or their customers.

    Keep it up!

  6. Andrew,

I enjoy your show. Yes, please expound on the eBay changes. I’m a 1,000 feedback eBay seller that has experienced the changes first hand. EBay seems to now be confused as to who their customers are — that is the sellers (”who pay their salaries”). The buyers on the other hand are the sellers customers. Ebay has apparently forgotten this and are now kissing the hand of the buyer while slapping the hand of the seller.

Thanks for the great show, MP

  7. Robin,

What browser are you using? Maybe that’s why ShareThis isn’t working for you.

    Regards

    Andrew

  8. Yes, please do expound on the Ebay status. I’ve been using ebay since ‘01 and have been frusterated with the direction they are headed. I love your show btw, thanks.

  9. Andrew;
Love you show, you media mogul, you! I too am interested in learning more about the eBay debacle.
Question: How can I use the web to effectively market my real estate business in this miserable market? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cordially,
    Leo

  10. Hi Andrew,
another great video. Would love a breakdown of changes at eBay.

Keep on with the cool t-shirts!!

    Brendan.

  11. EXCELLENT as usual, Yes Andrew, I would like some more info …ie; a Video as you mentioned to outline the recent changes on eBay. How do we get the message to them that Sellers and Buyers ARE their “Bread & Butter”. Their Success IS undoubtly tied to HAPPY CUSTOMERS …Buyers or Sellers.
Thanks for all you do and for the good insight.

  12. Hi Andrew,
Fantastic show as usual. I do not currently use ebay extensively but would also like to know more about the changes. I appreciated your advice to the 70 year old speaker, and giving her another resource, you are just full of infomation. And 3 cheers for Costco! I shop Costco extensively and a lot of it has to do with their wonderful customer service as it relates to returns. Appreciate you throwing out the kuddos to them for that, it is very hard to find a company with those qualities these days. Keep up the great work!
    Mimi

  13. I would love to see a video about ebay changes. Costco is definitely getting my business. Thanks for these informational videos!

  14. Hi Andrew,

I would love you to speak more on EBay. As I am considering Ebay as a market place it would be very useful.
I have also just discovered EBay BANS and was wondering if your book covers any part of this service?
    Luv your shows!!!
    Cheers
    Meg

  15. P.S Andrew is there anyway I can download your clips to keep on my computer?
My broadband service is delivered via a wireless signal that makes it a bit erratic and frustrating when watching online video. It also takes 10-15mins per video to download and I do like going back and re-watching your stuff. It is exceedingly valuable.
    Cheers

  16. Hey Andrew, I’m using firefox and the share this thing doesn’t show up at all.

I love costco and will continue to shop there, nothing better than a 3lb bag of spinach for a few bucks.

I want to utilize the “share this” button, but the drop down boxes are hidden behind the video and I can’t access them…is there a trick I’m missing?

Also, I’d love a show on eBay.

    Thanks, Jennifer

  19. This is the first video I have watched from you and it was quite informative. As a former e-book seller I enjoyed the piece on the e-bay changes and your experiences at the expo. Despite the changes I still love e-bay and right now it’s just adapt to new policy and keep going.

  20. Andrew, you may remember I’m a former consumer investigative reporter for Post Newsweek TV. What you don’t know is that I have also had a nightmarish experience with eBay. You see I closed a bank account and eBay decided to ignore my email to them saying that. Then they send me an email saying that they tried to use THAT account that had been closed to get their monthly fee. I politely wrote back and told them that I had CLOSED that account MONTHS ago and I was NOT going to pay their fee for a closed account insufficient funds! I told them I would gladly pay the bill they wanted me to pay however. NO, they wanted me to pay that stupid fee! I refused and they got nasty and finally froze my account.

What those MBAs don’t know is that I’m an email buddy of one Pam Omidyar. Ring a bell? She is the wife of one Pierre, founder of eBay! We are both passionate about Social Enterprising as I have http://www.7thaven.org. I have not bothered Pam with this since I can live without eBay. However here is another example of what happens when the founders walk away from the company like Bill and Melinda are doing. Wonder if that will happen if Ballmer?

    Very Informative!!
This webcast was superisingly very informative.
I never knew ebay treated their customers so poorly!! What a shame!! Go Costco for having an excellent return policy!!

  22. Excellent information! Would love more information on Ebay and your views of what needs to be done to keep the sellers happy.

  23. Andrew, Brilliant - just wish I could understand a quarter of the stuff you use for my own wwebsite which has been ‘work in progress’ for months because I still don’t get it. (Website publishing I mean)
Would love to see more on e’bay and what opportunites you see from the new rules.
    Regards and Best Wishes

  24. Linda Thom says:

Yes, a video devoted to the eBay changes would be quite helpful. I’d LOVE to hear your take on them.

    Thanks!

  25. Jeffrey Magone says:

Yes, more on the eBay changes please ~ that would be great Andrew!

Excellent job btw; your videos have superb content and your British humor is much appreciated :)

  26. Hey Andrew, Great Show. Yes! Id love to hear more about the eBay changes and how it affects your H3 system specifically.

    Thanks

    Evan

  27. Thank you Andrew!

I’ve been searching around and listening to various podcasts and tips about online marketing and I’ll honestly say your show is my favorite. Not only is your information useful, you seem genuinely interested in what you are doing and not just trying to make a buck. Kudos for practicing what you preach and for putting some effort into the production value of your podcast.

As someone who has only been at the online marketing game for a year or so, I really look forward to every episode and continue to enjoy learning.

  28. James Gunn says:

    Andrew,

I always enjoy your shows and usually enjoy your sense of humour, but your swipe at MBAs was unworthy of you. Like any other large group of people, MBAs vary. As a management consultant cum entrepreneur, I see a lot of MBA-less idiots too. Unfortunately nobody can teach judgement yet !

  29. James,

My show has a lot of tongue in cheek content that’s not designed to be the last word on a subject - purely an exaggerated opinion presented in an entertaining style. having said that, there was sound basis for what I said, based on my own experience and observation. I have VERY good friends with degree level qualifications. MOST of them by their own admission have found those qualifications to be a hindrance rather than a practical benefit. And my comments were most definitely a generalization, I’ve read and benefited from some books written by MBA’s.

    Regards

    Andrew
