I don’t obsess about spelling in my business generally, but when it comes to signage and marketing, it DOES matter, greatly. I’ll show you some crazy business signs that are quite unbelievable.

Do you need to raise money to support your business? As long as you’re qualified, you can get a loan from a variety of sources online. I’ll show you some popular ones.

When I travel, it’s common for me not to receive a booked wake up call, so I’ve taken to using the free service called WakerUpper.com – it’s great!

Finally, our BIG marketing lesson is from eBags.com. They have a clever system in place to know when a customer adds products to their cart but doesn’t checkout. The key is to know how to follow up with customers in that kind of situation, whether their business is offline or online.

  1. Hey Andrew –
Have you sacked Dave crenshaw?? :-)

  2. This is very great information provided in here. i am really glad to get very useful information regarding getting loan at very low rates and getting starting our own business.

    Thanks.

  3. I appreciate the information you have given in this educational video of yours. Grammar is definitely important in marketing. I’ve seen very odd and strange improper grammar on signs and shops that could go as far as to turn customers away. The part where you mentioned the site for waking you up was indeed very helpful. I will take a look into it. I hope your show will go a long way. Good luck and good day!

  5. Hello Andrew,
I look forward to your show each week. It is lively, educational and enjoyable, regardless of what tapic you’re discussing. You always provide great tips and information.

    Thanks,
    Ted

  6. Hey Andrew:

Great point in contacting clients who leave your web site.

Sometimes people will register on my site, look at a few houses, then leave. I always go into the MLS and try and find them something CLOSE TO WHAT THEY WERE SEARCHING FOR and send it to them.

Made a couple of sales by this method. It works!

  7. Hi Andrew,

Is there a UK firm which does business loans in the same way Prosper.com?

    Thanks,
    Lee

  8. Oh oh. Looks like to you paid 15% too much on the first purchase.

  9. Many excellent business tips have been stated by Mr. Andrew Lock by means of funny examples and the talk was quite interesting. The importance of language and grammar have been well explained. He has also explained about the reasonable interest rate schemes which is a relevant topic as far as a businessman is concerned. The statements made about how to increase the business profits were also interesting.

  10. I appreciate that Mr. Lock took a little time to speak on grammar. It’s very amusing to see all of those mistakes, but also very unprofessional! My favorite section of this episode is the nifty links section. It really lives up to it’s name, and has a lot of interesting ideas.

Interesting statements about completing the online order. You have really good ideas on how to make sure that all customers place the order and go through with buying.

  11. Dave Crenshaw will be back soon – the poor guy has to have a vacation sometime, doesn’t he?

    Regards

    Andrew

  12. this was an iteresting video

  13. Hi Andrew,

I’ve been watching your podcast for a couple of years now and absolutely love it! I say watching, but I really only get to listen to it on my way into work.

anyway, the last 2 or 3 episodes I noticed the video go all psychodelic on me, but I thought it was just a corrupt download or something. I’ve just tried to download #122 via itunes and I get a popup message saying that your podcast was “not copied to the iPod “Mark’s iPod” because it cannot be played on this iPod” :-(

My ipod nano isn’t the latest generation but it’s only maybe a generaiton or two old and used to play the colour videos perfectly. Is this a one-off while you try to fix the video, or am I going to be without your podcasts from now on?

Thanks again for your wonderful show!

    Mark

  14. Andy Sherman says:

Grammer is very important, that is why my book,’ How to use gooder grammer” has been so powerfulll .
    I am absessed with it.

  15. Jimm Crouse says:

“Yer right grammer ain’t what it used to was!”
And with all the texting & IMing it’ll be a miracle if any of the young people of today actually know how to SPELL correctly! I know that my teenage g’daughter uses text-speak much of the time when she writes…and of course her friends understand her. It’s like texting/IM is creating an entirely new language for the 21st Century.

  18. Andrew, thanks for the spelling/grammar shout out….

Your eBags experience is a textbook example of a strategy called remarketing… ecommerce sites using automated processes to follow up on abandoned carts. If anyone wants more info on remarketing, read A Buyer’s Guide to Remarketing Services — http://bit.ly/a5z3PY

Remarketing technology involves online tracking, an issue that’s causing some controversy as regards online privacy. Read Online Ads, Privacy Remain in FTC Crosshairs — http://bit.ly/aier0A — to learn more about that issue.

  19. HELP! My videos won’t play! What’s happened to the video format? I’ve been a follower on iTunes on my iPad and iPhone…last few episodes…no go.

  20. Thanks again for yet another great episode! Part of me begs to ask the question, what happened with Fatcow? They used to be the web host sponsor, and now, blue hosting? I am with fatcow as per your advice, so I am curious as to what advantages you have found with Bluehosting. Not that I wish you to talk poorly about fatcow, but if there was a bad marketing example here we can learn from, that would be great.

  21. Hm Andrew, interesting if you would do live broadcast at some point! That would be nice experience.

  22. Dear Andrew,
Still weekly watching your show, I greatly appreciate the regular item of the great marketing example of some company. Nevertheless, even though the show is not too long, I is getting a bit boring. Week in week out the advert for the trybluehosting (though I do now remember the name, it begins to annoy) and the idea to become a fellow niftyclicker, begin to be a bit too much of the good.
Could you maybe bring in some variation, like every month another advert and some more of the great marketing examples? The Walt Disney Special Edition was your greatest show recently.
    Thanks,
Erwin, watching from Groningen the Netherlands.

  23. iTunes refuses to play your videos on my iPod Touch any more! Bummer!

  24. Dear Andrew,
I am your fan. I am unable to view episodes #121 and #122 for no reason. Did you make any changes to your videos lately? Thanks.

    Eric, watching from Hong Kong.

  25. Regarding wake up calls, I use my cell phone’s Alarm Clock feature.

What happened to the tee-shirts you used to wear? Decided to “Dress for Success”, huh?
I know it’s been a while, but I could not find
    an explanation. Just wondering.

    Love the show.
