Being an optimist and living in Florida I have found a positive side. When I need gas or oil I simply drive over to the gulf and fill her up.

The BP oil spill is directly because Congress allowed the oil companies to skip putting shut off valves at the bottom of their wells.
Why?
So the oil companies can save millions of dollars.
When the big corporations OWN Washington, this is the result you get.
CONGRESS is responsible for the BP oils spill.

I have the “original” iPhone 3G (not even the 3GS) and I would like to get the iPhone 4 since I use it as a *business tool*. However, I’ve heard there are antenna problems causing problems with the signal, etc.
Since I use the iPhone to communicate with *business* associates and clients, I need to have a good PHONE functionality.
Any other experiences with bad signals or antenna issues?
June 30th, 2010 at 12:20 pm
The iPhone 4 does have problems with their antenna, which from what I was told at the Apple store has cause a lot of problems and concerns. I watched as a customer had great reception while the phone was on the counter, then picked it up and the reception went away. I have a 3Gs and I think I will wait for Apple to fix this problem.
Andrew, do you have a list of places like BlipTV that I might get from you?
Gary
June 30th, 2010 at 12:28 pm
Hi Gary,
I haven’t had any problems whatsoever with the antenna and I’ve been using the phone every day. I wasn’t even aware of the issue until I saw it on the news! As I understand it, all cellphones can lose reception if they’re held in a certain way, but like I said I haven’t experienced the problem that’s been described by some.
Other sites like Blip are:

Viddler.com
Veoh.com

DailyMotion.com

Sandy and Wayne –
You really have two non-complimentary businesses on one site — and these two businesses have completely separate customer bases (market segments).
NO WONDER THEY ARE CONFUSED!
I recommend that you split your site into two sites – say, “Alaskarama Virtual Tours” and “Alaskarama Web Design” and market them each to their respective audience niches.
BTW: Have you very carefully defined and refined your target markets for each of these two business lines? (This failure is why you are getting the confusion from your audience that you are getting.) Once your target markets are specifically (and accurately) defined, these “confusion” issues will significantly diminish – and you can more realistically deal with any remaining confusion up-front and directly in your advertising.
Cheers … Art@AGRitter.com

Hi Andrew,
BP is not the one that is causing the delay in the clean up of the oil spill. It, is a combination of the law that prohibits the clean up to be done without it being a us company ship and the President not putting a wavier on that law. Thus, not allowing the ships from other countries to help in the clean up of the oil spill.
June 30th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
BP would have the oil cleaned up by now if “Scary Barry” would nullify the Jones Act and then get out of the way.
June 30th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
The new graphic designed BP logos shows the anger behind it. Cleaning up the oil spill should take place ASAP, then giving excuses and explainations.
June 30th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
Now that we desperately need this mess stopped and cleaned up, why am I hearing new that the gov. is denying people and companies that are offering valuable cleanup boats/equipment? Shameful if that is the case!
June 30th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Maybe you should make sure you’ve got the facts before commenting about the BP oil spill?
Originally, BP was going to drill where all the other rigs are drilling, in 500 feet of water or less. They had the approval of the State of Louisiana until the Federal government, in their infinite wisdom and insight, nullified the agreement and told BP to drill where they are now.
When the leak did occur, Netherlands among others offered equipment within 3 days to help with the clean up. Our wise President turned them down because he did want to upset the unions by setting aside the Jones Act, in this emergency, which says that it has to be U.S. boats and crews working on the rigs. In fact, he thought it more important to play golf.
How about the question of why he put in the moratorium in place for 6 months (which thankfully has been overturned)? Because those drilling rigs aren’t going to stay put for that long. In fact, PetroBras put in for those drilling rigs as soon as they heard of the moratorium. That means the rigs would be gone for a long time, putting a lot of workers out of jobs in the gulf region. What do PetroBras and the President have in common? George Sorros!
Perhaps you might consider listening less to the mainstream media and watch some shows where they do some honest and indepth research, like maybe Glenn Beck?
Just a thought!
June 30th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Lowell,
I generally don’t listen to the media, I just observe, and what I saw was an oil platform owned by BP that exploded, causing hundreds of millions of gallons to spew into the gulf. I’m not an expert on these matters, and clearly I have plenty of opinions of my own, but I welcome everyone to share there’s too. Thank you for contributing to the discussion. I absolutely don’t have all the answers, there’s far more clever people out there than me with issues like this.

Cutie pie works for BP
You can see that BP caused the spill and has done little to this day to stem the tide of oil spilling forth and killing marine life, and jobs (for fishermen etc) in the etc.
It took Obama to have the balls to speak up against BP – you never would have seen a Bush do that – and look at the Republicans record with anything – let alone Katrina.
Check your facts.

I believe I read somewhere about the iPhone 4 fix, there is a small spot on the phone that, if touched will affect the signal. This article http://chris.pirillo.com/iphone-4-antenna-fix/
is supposed to be the answer, although after spending $200-300 I would not want to have to fix it at all! (This still will not prevent me from getting the phone!)
Good show, I have used Groupon on a few occasions and it has given me a great deal, especially for new restaurants in NYC. There is also another site, http://livingsocial.com/, which gives a similar service.

i really do agree with him in not understanding why people stand in line for such long and tiring hours.
on another note, that Bp announcement was hilarious i couldn’t stop laughing for a couple of minutes after i read it that i had to pause the video till i pulled myself together.
i really do like that site that he mentioned in the nifty clicks part, i’m going to check it out and hopefully i’m going to join it.
thanks a bunch for your work and i’m looking forward to your next episode.

WHO OWNS THE OCEANS?! Seriously, I can totally agree with that. I think the whole re-designed logos for bp by the graphic artists are something else. I’d like the world to mine when I’m finished. Why this thing isn’t under control yet? I have no clue…..I think the president should have a little more involvement in this issue. Post its…..One of the best and worst inventions ever created! Good Video, really informative.

Sorry Andrew, I’m not sure why the BP oil spill belongs on this type of business blog. It really adds little value to entrepreneurs trying to build a business. Obviously what you’re really looking for is activity on your comments section. If there’s a business lesson to be learn then I’m sure you can find other lessons from the Iraq war or illegal immigrants.
July 1st, 2010 at 11:52 pm
Hi Pete,
There’s actually a very powerful lesson about the oil spill in the show, as it relates to business, and I do like to encourage a lively debate in the comments, you’re right about that.
I don’t have all the answers, I enjoy hearing other opinions, and there’s some very smart people who contribute to the comments.
Regards
Andrew

I can see that this video covers some big current topics with a little humor, but the problem is in the delivery. Not everyone understands this sort of human an can take it as arrogance or perhaps disinterest. On another note: BP has made a fool of themselves and should be made fun of, bravo. I don’t agree with the post-it not theory, I like visual aids. When I am not on my computer the post-its, creatively representative of my own need to do work, are there and I can feel some sense of accomplishment from working through them and then trashing them. Swish!! One shot in the trash bin. The marketing advice given through the video is fitting for many different levels of business, nice job on covering so much in 10 minutes. “The reason why,” that is a great slogan for anyone. I will probably use that at some point; “I am the reason why.”

Why are you not wearing those great t-shirts anymore? That was your trademark. I miss them.

it was great and worth watching
thank you
July 4th, 2010 at 7:21 pm
I’ve been enjoying your episodes since the first one. Good show this week. I, too, have been wondering why you don’t wear the slogan t-shirts. But I also see that you look more comfortable in Western snap shirts. I’m okay with that. Change is good. My be you could place a slogan on the counter like a nameplate and switch that instead of your shirt. I think the most noticable change is your use of hand movements — you’ve made an effort to be more animated. That’s good, too. But I also see that if you dropped the counter level to your elbow height or a bit lower you would have less of a tendency to look like you’re stuck behind the counter….sort of like a little kid that can’t quite see what’s going on. Or (my pet-peeve) sitting at a restaurant table with very sunken booth seats. The table become a chin rest. Well… I am exaggerating a bit, all with good intention and the eagerness of a fan to see you do well. Keep up the good work.
I’ll see you next week.

July 5th, 2010 at 10:20 am
LOL I loved the logo “upgrades” for BP. My favorite one was the crab holding on the letters, BP.
I must say, I disagree with the sticky note comments. When I was in college I used sticky notes for my daily task lists and honestly, they helped a lot. I was able to get everything done and it felt great to cross things off my list.
July 5th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
First time watched this show, and found it quite interesting, but it’s not in the field I’m interested in. Anyway I have some comments on particular episode.
About the iPhone, I think Apple products is mostly pure marketing. And I’m it’s target too, I would like to own iPhone, but I don’t want to pay extra money for Apple’s brand. And by the way, I find Android phones more functional and better considering value/price ratio.
I liked logos, but sadly they all were from the same theme. Anyway crab logo rocks.
Sticky notes comment were irrelevant to me. Strangely enough I don’t use them.
Keep doing the good work.

Really interesting show, you know I actually work at sears which is not to far away from a harbor freight tools store. Are biggest thing is tools, craftsman and I notice that people there are happy with the prices. I noticed that our prices are sometimes more expensive, and think that had to do with how you talking about low quality, low price. I have tools from harbor freight that are really nice and yes were less than craftsman.

The only problem with Harbor Freight is….truth in advertising. There is nothing quality about their tools. I’m sure they buy them directly from the manufacturer in China, but i don’t think they’re buying the same tools that others are putting their brand names on. Their ‘reasons why’ should be “If you want to pay very little for a tool that might last through one job, this is the place.
July 6th, 2010 at 8:58 am
I really liked this video, i even added it to my pod cast list on my media player. I like the whole harbor freight segment cause i normally do think that their stuff is garbage, maybe its not. I just dont understand how people cant understand that one womans site in alaska. Its pretty simple a chimp could understand it. Anyway, keep up the good work, peace
July 6th, 2010 at 9:01 am
This video is great. I’ll definitely be staying in tune for further episodes. I’d love to have the new iPhone but if there are so many problems running about, i think I’ll just stick my mythic out and wait for the problems to be resolved. It’s so dumb to buy a brand new phone and expect there to be no errors!
July 6th, 2010 at 9:59 am
I really enjoy this video. I think i’ll change my blackberry for an iphone. I really like the new iphone, it is beautiful. I love the proposition for the new logo of BP because it is so true.
July 6th, 2010 at 10:35 am
i really liked this video. this has got some serious information. i am using iphone 4 and not having any problem yet
July 6th, 2010 at 11:07 am
this was a informative video which makes me think more about how i can market my business. If harbor freight can get away with selling horrible crappy items, i can sell a good service. I just hope that you dont like harbor freight, they are the devil
July 6th, 2010 at 12:11 pm
Love the show, i really love the whole accent too. Ive seen a little of a couple of older shows and was wondering where your shirts with the crazy sayings on them? Harbor Freight sucks, they are cheap and most of the stuff breaks in a few weeks. Keep up the good work and start wearing those shirts again, good luck.
July 6th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
Well, i find your video really interesting. Somehow it will be very beneficial to new users of the ipad
I enjoy hearing your opinions. I am looking forward for a new video very soon. Kudos! Love your accent

July 6th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
I really like that you covered the BP oil spill. A lot of media outlets are either failing to care or just doing a bad job. Also I like the tip about how to make something cheap seem good. Thou harbor freight items normally suck. Thanks for the info and keep up the hard work.
