I start out this episode with a shout out to viewer Curtis Mock who has done an outstanding job with his FitBiz.tv show for independent gym owners – he helps and advises them with practical marketing and business advice they can implement and use right away.

My WebTV Wealth event in Salt Lake City happened last week and we all had a great time. It was a lightning fast run through the world of WebTV, with a focus on how to make money from doing your own show.

This week our question is all about social media, specifically how is it possible to track results of marketing efforts in that world? My answer may shock you, but it needs to be said.

If you’ve ever thought about blogging for profit then you’ll love this week’s nifty click resource that’ll help you get started, for free. It’s fellow Brit Michael Dunlop’s site, and he’s done a really great job of providing useful, practical content.

The BIG marketing lesson is from Citrix, the company that’s behind GotoMyPC, which I use all the time, incidentally. The marketing lesson focuses on how to provide your customers with an unexpected, unannounced gift.

As usual, let me know your opinion about the topics covered in the show this week – leave your comment below, it’s really easy to do.

Enjoy the show!

  1. Steve,

Thanks for your video comment, and great to hear a fellow Brit say Twitter the same way. My friends in the States tease me about that!

    Regards

    Andrew

  2. Always a great job andrew. i like the blooper at the end.

  3. Great info on the system for gifts, I will be implementing that ASAP.

Also, I have to give a shout out for Curtis Mock, for gym owners he has a fantastic show and advice.

  4. I agree, social media can have a huge impact on your business if you do it right.Don’t just try to sell people stuff. Build a relationship with people. Social media is best for brand building and getting your name out there.

Just look at Obama. In a year or so he went from a place where no one knew who he was to everyone raving about him. This was done mostly with social media. A great book that explains how he did it and how you can implement social media into your business the right way is Obama 2.0, it’s on Amazon.

Great work Andrew. Keep up the good work. I love the new look of the show :)

  5. Thanks, Andrew.

Great info as always. I hope people truly appreciate what you offer.

The blooper at the end – brilliant. Great for marketing. People want to see the “real” person behind the smoke an mirrors.

    Keep up the amazing work.

    Be well,
    Dr. Bryan Walsh

  6. Great show, Andrew! Your comments on social media are right on the money – I totally agree. And has anyone told you you’re incredibly good-looking?!

  7. Good show, Andrew. Social media networking is one area in my marketing that I really struggle. I understand it’s concept, but the chit chatting part seems a bit forced for me.

  8. the download link isnt correct, thanks for the show

  9. Thanks for your comments everyone.

I wondered how many would notice the blooper at the end – I can make it a regular feature if you like – let me know. It’s not like I have to work hard to create the bloopers ;)

  11. Man oh man. I normally watch your show the moment I get the email, but since I’m in the middle of moving from Florida to California, I couldn’t watch right away.

So instead I get like 20 emails telling me that “Andrew mentioned you on his show!!”

And lo and behold, you did! Well anyone that gets a chance to come to my site to see what I put together, know that I HAPPILY pay Mr. Andrew Lock to teach me how to do all of it.

A plug for Andrew’s consulting service….I have made a huge splash in my industry with the TV show, and I give Andrew credit for my success.

If you have the chance to invest in his consulting, do it. Especially if you are trying to become THE personality in your industry. Thanks again Andrew, for the shout out, your help making me “the man”, and for your friendship.

  12. Superior Roof and Chimney of NJ 1 877 319 1222. Great Show Andrew, Social Media has been a puzzle to me from the start. I think your insight is right on, with regard its useful purpose. However I still in the dark as to how to actually drill it down to my market. In other words how do I connect to my relatively small geographic market and even smaller niche market?
    Great stuff Andrew!!

    Thanks

  13. Great show Andrew and especially since I’m a social media consultant. You are right on the money with your take on social media. It’s a Social connect with new, current and past customers. I measure my results with the number of connects made. These connects are through fans added, comments made or new opt ins. Love the blooper, keep up the great work.

  15. Great job again Andrew. I as well am struggling with the social media aspect as I find I have so little time as it is, let alone chatting with people that might buy something. BUT, I do see how great it can be, it’s just hard to add something else to the mix when the bowl is full!

  16. Hi Andrew, one question: How do you create those wonderful sign up forms like the membership form on the niftyclicks page – are there and nifty free sites doing this for you without you having to hire a php expert or other?

    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas

  17. Thomas,

I use http://www.TryInfusion.com which is also a comprehensive CRM system, but a good free tool for the feedback form is http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/grunion-contact-form/

  18. Great tip on providing unexpected value to your customers. Excellent as always!

  19. Hi Andrew,

    Love your videos.

Just have a quick comment about your advice about domain names. I found the domain I wanted taken so added a “the” in front (http://TheBabyBoomerEntrepreneur.com).

It was the second worse idea I had in choosing a domain name (the worst was using the word “entrepreneur”. No one can spell it)

I can’t tell you the number of people who tell me that can’t find my site because they forgot the “the”. In fact, I’m thinking of creating a new domain that redirects to the existing one.

    Keep up the good work!

    Andrea

  20. hey Andrew,

I’m a big fan of your show. Almost from the start on. This time I want to thank you for the great resource you provided in fitbiz.tv. I immidiately started to watch the show and all the old episodes and love it.
Thanks again and continue the great work.
    Dirk
