I don’t consider myself an Apple fanboy, heck I even use a PC all day in the office. BUT, I do own and iPhone, and now an iPad, and I have to tell you that I love it. It’s NOT a computer, it’s not a phone, and it’s not just a large iPod touch. The large HD screen is stunning and opens up a world of possibilities for portable entertainment. That’s how I plan to use it. I’ll watch movies, surf the web, listen to a podcast or edit a presentation, all of which are a delight on the iPad. In case you’re wondering how I surf the web at 30,000 feet, Delta now has wifi on almost all their planes.

I unveil a new feature of the show this week, called ‘Madverts’. I’ll show you some crazy, zany, uncategorizable (made up word) ads that’ll make you go “Hmmmmm…” This weeks entry is from my very own town, with an ad for the Salt Lake Community College Barbering and Cosmetology School. Wow, that’s a mouthful. Wait till you see the ad with the nice Mormon boys preparing for their mission. I love it.

If you suspect that someone is stealing your images for their website, there’s a handy tool to detect just that. It’s called TinEye, although I’m not quite sure why. I tried it, and it’s pretty good. Does the job well, and for free.

This week’s interview is with Shelby Larson, owner of ContentDivas. Shelby is an amazing entrepreneur who has built up a fascinating ‘done4you’ business over the last few years. She saw a need, and took action, and the rest is history. She does a great job of explaining the differences between organic and paid (PPC) marketing, and I also pinned her down to reveal some practical suggestions that you can implement right away, to improve your organic search results on Google and the other major search engines.

This week’s BIG marketing lesson is from Moleskine Notebooks. How do you sell a product as simple (and boring) as a little notebook? Well, let me tell you a story…. Watch the episode and you’ll understand.

As usual, let me know your opinion about the topics covered in the show this week – leave your comment below, it’s really easy to do.

Enjoy the show!

  1. So what’s your take on the iPad? Awesome technological masterpiece or overpriced hype?

    Let me know your opinion!

  2. Living in OZ we dont have access to the IPAD as yet, Id like to see what the google tablet is like…Re the Moleskin notebook, sheesh, I just want to rush out and buy one now…seriously.
Enjoying the new format and the interview with Shelby was awesome…Im going back over it to take notes and get on board.

  3. Hey Andrew,

As always, great show. I personally don’t have an iPad. :( However I would be a bit concerned because it looks too large to hold with one hand which is a fantastic feature of the iPhone or iPod touch. That being said, I would still love to have one! I have also read that the HD video quality is outstanding.

Thanks for the interview with Shelby. She’s one smart cookie.

    Cheers!

  4. Great show Andrew and I love the new REAL stage props. You can actually have a desk top and put stuff on it. I love the moleskin notebook and I have always used a notebook or day planner to jot down my ideas when they strike otherwise they get lost and sometimes gone forever. I look forward to another great 100 shows and wish you great success.

  5. Great show. Thanks for sharing the Moleskine.
They do a great job of creating a cult of devotees, including me.

I have to say, they’re not just ordinary notebooks. They’re incredibly sturdy and well-designed, so there’s quite a bit backing up the marketing story.

I do love their tagline, a simple list that really sums up the story: Culture, imagination, memory, travel, personal identity.

Every one of those words resonates with me.

    Long live the Moleskine!

  6. Andrew,
Once again, great show, I love the new setup! I just wanted to let you know that there is a spelling error on your products page:
“he Stress Free Guide to Public Speaking & Presentations”
I’m guessing that it should read “The” not “he”

Thanks again for a great show.
    Matt

  7. Andrew,

Great show, I think the IPad is great but I have heard with all of the options that you would want on it, it costs closer to $1000. I do like the thought of using it on the plane, and I wonder if this it will eventually eliminate netbooks.

  11. Andrew,
Great show again. You provide a lot of content in one show. I don’t have the iPad but I have one question for you – can I watch your show on iPad?

I watch quite a lot of web shows so that I learn how to improve my own show. Pretty much all of them use Adobe Flash including my show. I was told iPad does not support Adobe Flash. If this is the case is there a way around it?

    cheerio,

  12. The new episode isn’t out on iTunes yet. Will it still be coming out on iTunes?

  13. Love Shelby! What a great resource your site provides. I am a teacher, and we are increasingly pushed to market our school districts in making our students’ work public. There is a lot here that I am excited to put into practice.

  14. I really enjoyed this video because it’s my first time viewing of this program and realized that I’ve been missing all the fantastic episodes. This one was worth the watch especially being introduced to the wow Apple IPAD. I want one too. Your review was really cool Andrew and it’s sad that people are out to say bad things about new technology without actually realizing the amount of research and development it takes to make a product. Anyways keep up the good work.

  15. Great show, even tho there was a spelling error, keep up the great work looking to watch more from you all.

  16. We were talking about devices like the Ipad and Amazon’s Kindle at my night job last night.

The consensus was that we probably wouldn’t use such a device because it’s another thing to lug around, the potential for theft, and speaking for myself, I would probably break it.

The kindle book reader is interesting but also expensive, and the virtual books are almost as expensive as “real” books.

If they got the prices way down for the devices and the content, I must admit it would be cool to clear most of the physical books out of here. I think I will do that today anyway!

  17. yeah there is no doubt about the apple ipad . it is very convenient to work . and good for us entertain .. thank you men commenting on my fav device .

  19. Great show, I think the IPad is great. It costs closer to $1000. I do like the thought of using it .I wonder if this it will eventually eliminate netbooks.

  21. well very informative indeed, although iPad is personally too expensive for a student like me,hope my parents would be generous enough to buy me one..^^ hehe, thanks for the video, great stuff Moleskine..=)

  22. I must admit that is the first time I watch this show.It is a very interesting issue. I think the IPad is great, but it looked interesting as that mother did to make a successful business.
    Very cool show

  23. This is the first time I’ve seen this show. It gives a lot of infomation about different topics. I liked that he was talking about the iPad because I’m interested in it. The ad was kind of cheesy though, but kept me interested.

  24. Daniel Legazpo says:

Well this is the first time I watch your show adrew and I must say nice. It’s informational, original and helpful. I’ve been reading about the Ipad and was very concerned about the battery but like you said how could these people talk about the product if its just been launch, good catch. Great show I look forward to watching more often.

  25. Kaoru Sawada says:

The segment about TinEye was very useful, I think I will look into that to check on some images from a blog.

This also was the first time I watch this program but I think I’ll be back.

  26. The Ipad is no big deal… it just like tinkering with a large itouch. the Ipad not loading flash applications is stupid and a deal killer for me.

  27. Umair Naeem says:

ipad is great i thought its like a phone or a laptop like an iphone or a netbook but you said no it a totally diffrent product than whats the intresting thing in it just the internet ….
that 2$ hair cut is :P
i will buy a domain in near futuer
    tineye is awsome as free
BTW your guest is very good at her work
thats a really good show like ur old shows thumbs up for andrew lock

  28. Great show, Ipad just came out in New Zealand expensive bit of tech don’t know if ill be able to get one for a while.

  29. Still getting over withdrawls from the original format, but the show was great as always. I like the diagonal split screen effect for the interviews.
